Heal the Ocean
Heal the Ocean is a non-profit citizen’s action group with the simple philosophy that the ocean can no longer be used as a dump! HTO focuses on zero pathogens in sewage discharging into the ocean; septic systems; groundwater pollution; non-point source pollution; dredging and dumping; landfill runoff; and storm water discharge. We hire engineers, researchers and other experts to help identify where the pollution is coming from with methods such as DNA and virus testing and outfall monitoring. We then work with city and county agencies to collaborate on cleanup strategies.

Women’s Economic Ventures
Women's Economic Ventures is a local, non-profit organization dedicated to creating an equitable and just society through the economic empowerment of women. WEV provides practical, down-to-earth training and advice to give our clients the best possible chance of succeeding in business, and once they've completed a business plan, we back them with start-up and expansion loans of up to $50,000 from our loan fund. Some people think that starting a business during a recession is just too risky, yet during the past two recessions, 77% of the net new jobs were created by Microenterprises—businesses with five or fewer employees— and this is the category where the majority of WEV clients fall under. Please support WEV by raising funds and running to prevent small businesses from going under, prevent continued job loss, and encourage the entrepreneurial spirit to all women regardless of income or current unemployment, because this is what will help our economy recover.

The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As the nation’s largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing more than $3.4 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, more than 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year. To learn more about us or to get help, call us any time, day or night, at 1-800-227-2345 or visit cancer.org.

MDA/ALS
MDA is the world leader in ALS research and treatment. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a disease of the motor neurons, the nerve cells that control voluntary muscle movement. For unknown reasons, motor neurons die, and the muscles they control become weak and then paralyzed. Death, usually from respiratory complications, typically occurs between three and five years after diagnosis. However, about 10 percent of people with ALS live more than 10 years, and some survive for decades.
MDA's involvement with ALS began in the early 1950s when Eleanor Gehrig, widow of beloved Yankees first baseman Lou Gehrig, was searching for a way to fight the disease that had taken her husband’s life. Mrs. Gehrig served more than a decade as MDA National Campaign Chairwoman. Since inception, MDA has dedicated more than $250 million to ALS research, services and information programs.
